The « Energy & Memory » lab is seeking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to develop a research activity at the interface of learning and memory, cellular and systemic metabolism, and nutrient sensing and feeding behaviour.

The team recently unveiled a new mechanism of interoceptive lure, occurring during and required for memory consolidation (Francés et al., Nature 2026). These findings open a new research line about the characterization, at the cellular and circuit levels, of an eating drive independent of the body’s physical need for energy (‘emotional eating’), as well as its systemic impact. The recruited postdoc will be encouraged to develop projects in relation to this line of research, but the exact nature of the research program can be adjusted depending on the applicant’s wishes. 2-year funding is already secured for this position, but applicants are welcome to apply to additional external fellowships.

Over the past few years our team has made several major discoveries regarding the metabolic regulation underlying memory formation, leading to high-end publications by recently-hosted PhD students and postdocs (de Trédern et al., Cell Reports 2021; Silva et al., Nat. Metabolism. 2022 ; Rabah et al., Nat. Metabolism 2023; Francés et al., Nat. Commun. 2024;  Comyn et al., eLife 2024 ; Rabah et al., Nat. Metabolism 2025; Pavlowsky*, Silva* et al., Nat. Metabolism 2025 ; Francés et al., Nature,  2026). The team, hosted at ESPCI Paris-PSL in the historic center of Paris, provides high standards of scientific equipment, with two multiphoton microscopes for in vivo imaging and six climate chambers dedicated to behavior experiments in well-controlled conditions. This position is thus an opportunity to leverage the expertise of the host team to develop a strong track record, in view of pursuing an academic career. The starting date is flexible depending on the selected applicant’s constraints, but the position can be filled immediately.
