Postdoc position at MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences

A 2-year postdoctoral position is available at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) to work on a collaborative project between the Metabolism and Cell Growth group (headed by Dr Susumu Hirabayashi; https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/research-group/metabolism-cell-growth/) and the Redox Metabolism group (headed by Dr Helena Cochemé; https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/research-group/redox-metabolism/).

The LMS is an Institute funded by the MRC and part of the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College. We are located on the Hammersmith Hospital Campus in West London (W12). The LMS has first-class facilities and provides investigators from clinical and basic science backgrounds with the opportunity to pursue innovative, multidisciplinary research within the excellence of Imperial College. For more information, visit https://lms.mrc.ac.uk

The Hirabayashi and Cochemé groups use the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model system to investigate host-tumour metabolic and nutritional interactions. Current research interests include the exploration of the molecular link between diet-induced obesity, tumour growth and cachexia-like organ wasting (Hirabayashi group), and the effects of diet on metabolism and lifespan (Cochemé group). Our studies are underpinned by multidisciplinary approaches combining fly genetics, imaging, molecular and protein biology approaches, and metabolomics and RNA-sequencing analyses.

This is an MRC Postdoctoral Scientist position providing training and development supporting postdoctoral scientists in early or changed career paths helping establish them as successful research scientists in their chosen field. The MRC is a unique working environment where our researchers are rewarded by world class innovation and collaboration opportunities that the MRC name brings.

About you:

The successful candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant biomedical discipline, and have a strong interest in cancer biology. Experience in Drosophila genetics and tissue imaging techniques are essential. Familiarity with Drosophila cancer models, particularly in adult flies, would be a strong advantage. A proven publication record, with at least one first author publication in a peer-reviewed international journal is desirable. The successful candidate must also have a creative approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication.

How to apply:
