Post-doc position at the University of Bristol, UK

Post-doc opportunity to investigate immune cell extravasation from vessels to wounds combining in vivo Drosophila models & human genetic epidemiology

We are looking for motivated candidates with experience and/or interest in inflammation, immunity, tissue repair and live-imaging to apply for an MRC-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate post within the School of Biochemistry, University of Bristol. The position is within the Faculty of Life Sciences, an internationally respected hub of tissue repair and inflammation research.

The appointed researcher will work on a project aimed at investigating novel genes involved in immune cell extravasation from blood vessels to sites of inflammation (e.g. wounds).  The successful candidate will be part of a new collaborative team of researchers based at University of Bristol (led by Dr Helen Weavers and Professor Paul Martin) and QMUL (led by Professor Sussan Nourshargh). The Bristol-based position (this advertised role) will employ a multidisciplinary approach and utilise a new pupal vein model (Thuma et al, J. Cell Biol, 217, 3045; 2018) to identify and characterise novel players in this process. In parallel, the QMUL team will undertake complementary analysis of identified novel genes using murine models of inflammation, including live imaging methods (see https://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/CFN818/postdoctoral-research-associate-qmul24860 for murine post-doc position advert). By extending collaboratively to human studies using in vitro models and Population Health approaches, we will link the findings of the project to relevant human physiological and pathological scenarios.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant biological or biomedical subject area (or be close to completion of their degree), and a keen interest in in vivo imaging. Prior experience working with Drosophila is favoured but not essential. Applicants should be highly motivated, eager to learn new skills and have a track record commensurate to career stage.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Helen Weavers (helen.weavers@bristol.ac.uk) or Professor Paul Martin (paul.martin@bristol.ac.uk).
