Postdoc at University of Athens, Greece

The Group of “Ageing and Age-related diseases” headed by Prof Ioannis Trougakos (http://scholar.uoa.gr/itrougakos/home) is looking for a full time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to lead the team’s drug discovery projects.

S/he will focus on basic research in the field of ageing as well as on implementing in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo (model organism: Drosophila melanogaster) screening pipelines for novel substances against ageing and/or age-related diseases (cancer, neurodegeneration) towards the selection of candidates for further development.

Key responsibilities: • Contribution on ageing/age-related diseases on-going projects of the group • Implement “hit to lead” approaches for the discovery of novel substances modulating ageing and/or age-related diseases. • Assay development and implementation for hit identification and lead optimization. • Close and effective collaboration with an interdisciplinary team and collaborators in Greece and abroad.

Required qualifications: • PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., molecular-cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, etc.). • S/he should have a scientific track record of proven research capabilities, along with excellent written and oral communication skills in English. •  The applicant should have a keen interest in the field of ageing translational research.

Additional qualifications: • Knowledge of Drosophila biology.
